Be Prepared! What to expect and what to do!!!

Our pressures have been lower than normal in some areas but as of this morning, everything should be back to normal. Thank you all for your patience! There are many of you that currently have leaks and do not know it yet. Many times what will happen is that a pipe will freeze and burst in a way that the ice is actually sealing the leak. Then, when the ice starts to thaw, it breaks free and doesn't seal the broken pipe any longer and water is going everywhere. This is when you need to be aware of your water meter location and what to do. The picture above is a typical meter installation. Every service installed since January 2005 will have a cut-off on each side of the meter like the one in the picture. Services installed prior to this date will only have one cut-off on the street side of the meter. To turn off the water from the meter, rotate the cut-off until the two ears are in line with one another and the water should be off. We are here and ready to do this for you if needed free of charge, however, the fastest way is to do it yourself. It may take us a while to arrive depending on the amount of service calls we receive. Another common problem that many people have experienced is the frozen RPZ backflow preventer on their sprinkler system. This is the ABOVE GROUND valve pictured above that probably has either a insulated bag or a fake rock covering it. Many of these have frozen and are either spraying water now or waiting for the thaw to do so. There are cut-off valves on each side of these devices but depending on where the leak is, you may need to shut the water off at the meter instead. If you have one of these devices, please be mindful of its existence and the possibility it may be frozen. Sardis-Lone Elm Water Supply Corporation is a member-owned water supply corporation established under Chapter 67 of the Texas Water Code. We are regulated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and have been designated as a “Superior System”. The Corporation was created in 1964 and has since grown to over 6,450 active members. There is an elected Board consisting of Directors that each serve three year terms. These Directors volunteer their time in an effort to better the community and receive no compensation.

All operations are under the direction of the General Manager, Paul Tischler, who is hired by the Board of Directors. The office staff will gladly assist you with any questions that you may have and the field personnel respond promptly to all service related issues.
