Sardis-Lone Elm Water Supply

New Pump Station

The new pump station on Tar Road is now fully constructed.  This facility  provides an additional 1 MGD (million gallons per day) to our existing system.  We will be adding an additional well at this location this year that will help with both the supply and the cooling of the water.

Surface Water Connection
We began purchasing water at the end of May 2010 from the Rockett Special Utility District who in turn purchases a portion of their water from the city of Midlothian.  This wholesale surface water connection is designed to supplement our existing Groundwater supplies and to help cool the water that we deliver to our members.  There have been some problems with the taste of the water and we have had numerous complaints since adding the source to our inventory.

In 2011, we intend to utilize our wholesale connection differently.  The supplies from Rockett SUD and the City of Midlothian have seasonal issues with taste and odor as do most entities across the State that utilize surface water.  They both work diligently to mitigate the taste and odor situation when it occurs.  Since the problems with the water are seasonal and not permanent, we will modify our intake when the problems arise.  Emergency and/or drought conditions could affect the plan; however, under normal conditions, we will monitor the condition of the wholesale supply and decrease our intake when a taste/odor event occurs.

Our wholesale provider is aware of the situation and they informed us that the problem is indeed seasonal in nature.  The water is always safe to drink and meets all state and federal regulations.

Mount Zion Construction

The Mount Zion "Loop" is the first Capital Improvement project completed in 2011.  The new 12" water  main was installed along Mt. Zion road to connect a two 12" lines that had been installed in previous years together.  These two mains were linked together with a 6" main which has now been eliminated.  This will allow for more supply to be delivered from the rest of our system north of HWY 287 and will provide for better flow during peak day or emergency events.
